Our Solution

Before each project, our team of specialists will provide a free quote. From this, we then develop and present a comprehensive removal methodology based on the scope of works and project time frame. Once the PO has been issued, our team will work with you to finalise the start date, with a notification sent to WorkSafe prior to the project commencement.

Friable Works

When working on jobs that require friable asbestos removal, our team will set up a fully enclosed negative pressure environment. A smoke test is also carried out in order to ensure the integrity of the enclosure to make certain there are no leaks for asbestos fibres to escape.

This setup process is witnessed by an independent hygienist who then visually inspects the enclosure and performs the smoke test. The project will only commence following a satisfactory inspection and smoke test.

Pre-Project Procedures

During the planning stages of the project, our team must ensure a notification to WorkSafe has been submitted before any work can begin. This document provides full details of the scope of works. It is important during this process that our clients understand fully the works to be carried out, and what the process involves. This is to ensure that the removal works do not impact on the day to day running of the business or site as much as possible.

FAQs About Asbestos Removal

How Much Does It Cost To Remove Asbestos?

With each project having its own unique requirements, pricing is conducted on a project by project basis. This is due to many factors such as the type of asbestos being removed (friable or non-friable), the asbestos containing product (cement sheet, vinyl floor tiles, etc) and the quantity to be removed. In order to assist with our costs and scope, we welcome clients to provide photos of the asbestos affected areas such as floors, ceilings, roofs, eaves, walls, soil, pipe work and boilers.

Site visits can also be arranged with an estimator, who will contact the client to arrange a suitable time to attend the site. From this, a quote will be developed and issued.

What Does Class A Asbestos Removal Mean?

A Class A asbestos removal licence enables our team to safely remove both Class A & B asbestos from a range of worksites and environments. Class A asbestos removal means working with friable asbestos which can be easily crumbled, releasing dangerous airborne fibres and as such requires working within a more controlled and regulated environment than B Class asbestos removal projects.

What Is Asbestos And Why Is It Dangerous?

Asbestos is the name given to a range of naturally occuring silicate minerals which have a fibrous crystalline structure. Historically, asbestos has been mined, milled, and became an ingredient to a range of common building materials and a variety of industrial products. When asbestos materials are disturbed or damaged, the resulting dust may contain asbestos fibres. When such fibres are inhaled into the lungs, they can cause serious diseases such as pleural plaques, asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma. These diseases will not affect you immediately as they all take a long time to develop, but once diagnosed, it is too late to do anything.

What Is The Difference Between Non-Friable And Friable Asbestos?

Friable asbestos products are considered high risk because they may be easily damaged, releasing the asbestos fibres into the air. Friable asbestos products can be crumbled, pulverised, or reduced to a powder by hand pressure. Examples of friable asbestos products include asbestos insulation around hot water pipes, asbestos fire rated board used in older electrical switchboards and loose-fill asbestos ceiling insulation.

Non-friable asbestos products are generally lower risk products as they cannot be easily broken. The products may be bound with cement or other hard bonding substances. Non friable asbestos products may become friable when power tools such as drills, saws and sanders are used on them. Examples of non-friable asbestos products include asbestos cement sheet and asbestos vinyl floor tiles.

Do I Need A Professional Asbestos Remover, Or Can I Do It Myself?

In certain circumstances, unlicensed removal of asbestos is permitted. However licensed asbestos removalists have the training and equipment to be able to safely remove, clean up and dispose of any asbestos products.

Removing the asbestos material unlicensed could expose you and people around you to airborne asbestos fibres and as such, there are guidelines available for optimal protection if deciding to undertake the removal yourself. Click here for more information regarding the Victorian Occupational Health and Safety Regulations for unlicensed asbestos removal.

Can I Spot Asbestos Myself?

To confirm whether asbestos is present in a material, scientific testing of a sample is required. A syspected asbestos sample may be collected by a trained professional such as AAH Contracting and must be tested by a laboratory appropriately accredited by the National Assocation of Testing Authorities (NATA).
