Services Delivered
VicTrack awarded the tender to AAH Contracting to remove existing asbestos and replace it like-for-like with non-asbestos materials at the heritage-listed Golden Square Railway Station. The project needed to be co-ordinated around several stakeholders, including VicTrack, the local council, a 24/7 radio station and a full-time building tenant. AAH arranged and obtained a commercial building permit, liaised with tenants to temporarily relocate throughout the works, and installed a temporary tarp system to prevent water ingress during works conducted over winter. All employees and subcontractors adhered to strict RIW rail corridor safety conditions under a site-specific safety plan.
AAH was commended for its communication, providing consistent and regular project updates to all stakeholders involved, along with a 'seamless' delivery of the entire project, demonstrating AAH's ability to manage heritage asbestos removal within an active, multi-stakeholder rail environment.
Scope of Works
- Removal of asbestos roof shingles, infill panels, settled dust & insulation
- Removal of a redundant asbestos switchboard across both station buildings
- Reinstatement of roofing, battens, sarking, ridge capping & valley iron
- Non-asbestos cement sheeting & paint reinstated
- New scaffolding, handrails & electrical safety certification
