Queensland Schools Asbestos-Contaminated Sand & Remediation Program

Following the discovery of asbestos-contaminated coloured sand supplied to schools nationwide, AAH was engaged by QBuild to attend and remediate affected sites across Queensland, from inner Brisbane and Ipswich through to regional centres. Each site follows a standard task order: site-specific SWMS and control plan sign-on, set-up of a contained removal area with drop sheets, barrier tape and signage, HEPA vacuum and wet wipe decontamination, and hygienist clearance before disposal. At larger sites, including Aspley East State School, Bundamba State Secondary College and Geebung Special School, the program expanded into full asbestos abatement packages covering low-density board and AC ceiling removal, vinyl tile and cement sheet removal, and soft-strip demolition, with some works requiring full enclosure and negative-pressure control for friable materials.

AAH has completed asbestos-contaminated sand removal and remediation works across more than 30 Queensland school sites to date, with the program continuing to expand through additional variation works as further contaminated sand and building materials are identified. The scale and geographic spread of the program, from Brisbane's inner suburbs to regional Queensland, demonstrates AAH's capability in delivering a coordinated, multi-site government remediation panel outside its traditional Victorian base.
